FAIR ASSESSMENT POLICY DEC 2025 Review date: DEC 2026
SCOPE Nudge Education delivers bespoke interventions to support young people academically, socially and emotionally, helping them progress toward their next steps; whether that is reintegration into school, transition to a new provision, or entering the world of work.
This policy ensures that all young people that are supported by Nudge Education have the same opportunities to access appropriate qualifications, should that be the focus of their intervention, and that no young person is disadvantaged based on any attribute or circumstance (e.g. language, disability).
STATEMENT OF INTENT Nudge Education aims to provide all young people accessing our service the best chance of success when undertaking qualifications and examinations.
Where interventions follow Nudge Education’s Academic Pathway, we will gradually progress towards more formal academic settings and always facilitate a safe and productive environment, suitable for study. We will provide academic support in sessions should this be the focus of the intervention, aligned with the National Curriculum and specific exam specifications where necessary.
In line with our Equality and Diversity policy, this document relates to the fair assessment of a student’s work, reasonable adjustments that may need to be made and links to our Complaints Policy should there any formal concerns.
We also aim to write our policies and guides in language that is concise and easy to understand.
Nudge Education is not a registered exam centre and so we work closely with our commissioners and local partners to access exam centres, should exams or formal qualifications be requested for a young person accessing support from Nudge. Exam or qualification content is embedded into the intervention with a suitably trained/qualified Practitioner matched to the intervention.
WHAT YOUNG PEOPLE CAN EXPECT
-
We will prepare young people to access exams and qualifications that are appropriate and achievable for their level of learning. We want to ensure that young people are set up to achieve, not fail.
-
In some cases, we will notify our Commissioners when we believe a young person is ready to undertake an exam or qualification and can adapt our interventions to incorporate any learning accordingly.
-
We will use diagnostic assessment tools, such as Functional Skills and GCSE modules on BKSB.
-
We aim to ensure that all assessment of work is carried out fairly and in keeping with the Awarding Body’s requirements.
-
Timely and fair feedback on a young person’s work will be given throughout the duration of their studies or qualification.
-
We will work with each young person to ensure that their learning style and preferences are met by their allocated Practitioner.
-
We will not discriminate against any young person or carry out teaching or assessment in a manner that is likely to disadvantage a certain group of people or give an advantage to a certain group of people, for example giving out learning and assessment resources that are not written in the young person’s first language.
-
We will work closely with our commissioners to ensure that young people are entered into exams or qualifications in a timely manner and with the support required for them to be undertaken.
-
Where appropriate or necessary, Nudge Practitioners can be involved in a regular standardisation process to ensure that marking, assessment and delivery of qualifications is of a similar standard for all young people.
-
Education Intervention Coordinators (EICs) will request from commissioners or other partners that applications are made where any reasonable adjustments (or Access Arrangements) need to be made.
All young people who are to be enrolled on a formal accredited qualification will be given the following information:
-
The named Practitioner(s) likely to deliver and support the young person throughout the qualification.
-
Content of the course including expected learning hours, assessment methods and level of qualification.
-
Deadlines for coursework submission and examination dates.
-
Information, advice and guidance around the potential progression routes for the student following the successful completion of the named qualification.
-
Which awarding body the qualification is accredited by.
-
What happens if the young person fails an exam, project or module.
-
What resources will be available to the young person to undertake their qualification, including any reasonable adjustments that need to be made.
-
Rules and boundaries relating to the limits of support that Nudge Education can provide and consequences of malpractice or cheating.
